Well I finally broke down and upgraded my rifles optics from an Eotech 512 to a Aimpoint PRO. I loved the Eotech and used it for years but it has one shortfall, the battery life was only 500 hours. The Aimpoint PRO on the other hand has a battery life of 30,000 hour or approximately 3 years at power setting 7 out of 10 with 10 being the highest. Aimpoint recommends you leave the optic turn on all the time. So here are some before and after pictures. Plan to get by the range tonight and zero the Aimpoint.

The below pictures are rebel fighters from the Libyan civil war. How these guy ever made it to the capitol alive is beyond me. The only explanation is that the government troops have even worse weapon's handling skills than these guy. These 3rd world fighters are a professional army's dream. As a firearms and tactical shooting instructor I just have to shake my head every time I see a photo like the ones below. I guess I can not be to hard on them it appears to be working for them. Most of these guys probably learned their weapon's handling skills from Hollywood movies anyway. I have certainly seen a few of these shooting position in movies over the years. Heck I think I may have even seen a few of them in "Falling Skys" recently. Unfortunately alot of American learn their shooting techniques from these same movies. The bottom line is get quality training from a qualified instructor not from movies or the guy next door who thinks he is a firearm expert.

Coleman 55 Watt Solar Power System

Well I picked up myself a Coleman 55 Watt Solar Power System from Costco today. It was priced at 199.99 and and after tax it was 216.49. The system is a complete system including the inverter. I can not wait to put it to the test. When I was checking out one of the female employees asked what it was, before I could answer the male cashier told her what it was and that they have been selling alot of them. Like I said Costco is a great place for preppers because you just do not feel out of place buying something like this. I did look around before making the purchase and found systems cheaper but they were usually 45 Watt systems and did not include the inverter. I will need to pick up some 12V rechargeable batteries though. If you double click the second photo it should enlarge.

COSTCO IS FOR PREPPERS!

I was at Costco today doing my bi weekly shopping and saw some cool stuff. I suspect I will be back to Costco in the next few days buying a set of those 55 watt solar panel for 199.99. I'm not sure if you can tell or not but the last two photos are of a NG/LP generator that is 16kw and is designed to kick on if your power goes out. So as long as your NG supply is not interrupted or your 500 gallon propane tank does not go empty you will have power including A/C. They had a table top propane grill for 99.99 that would serve a great dual role for camping and emergency cooking as well. I may very well pick one up as well when I go back. I always like going to Costco because they have cool stuff and no one really gives you a second look when your buying stuff in bulk because they are doing the exact same thing. Also I have bought some Coleman LED Lanterns at Costco in the past for 19.99 each and they work great. I just thought about that because I notice they still have them in stock and was thinking about picking up a couple more. They run on C batteries and have a run time of 32 hours on the high (200 lumens) setting and 66 hours run time on the low (100 lumens) setting. Also for those who did not know Costco sells freeze dried food and other emergency supplies on line as well. It always makes me feel good when I see prepping supplies at a main stream store.

THE JAKARTA PANDEMIC

I recently had the opportunity to read a novel by Steven Konkoly titled "The Jarkarta Pandemic". The book follows an ex-marine and his family over a five month period starting in November 2013 and ending in March 2014 during which there is deadly flu pandemic. I found the book reminded me how important it is to keep your preps under the radar. As you read the book you will see what I'm talking about. This causes the main character, Alex and his family alot of unwanted attention during the crises. I did get upset with Alex through out the book because I felt some of his choices in dealing with refugees and other threats put his family at unnecessary risk. Without spoiling the book his failure to deal with some armed refugees who were probing his residence's security allowed these armed refugees the opportunity later to murder two different families in his neighborhood and steal their supplies. While he did not cause them to commit the murders, he did have a legal opportunity to protect his family and himself, but choice to give the refugees a firm warning not to come back on his property or he would kill them. I'm like hello they showed up at your house armed with the intent on stealing your supplies and you think they will not come back because you gave them a firm warning. I think as you read the book you will start to wonder how he last as long as he does, because of some of the poor choices he makes concerning these predator and the safety of his family. I do feel however that the book is worth purchasing and reading. So if you want to find out how everything turns out you will just have to purchase the book.

An Alternate Look at Handgun Stopping Power

I've been interested in firearm stopping power for a very long time. I remember reading Handguns magazine back in the late 1980s when Evan Marshall was writing articles about his stopping power studies. When Marshall's first book came out in 1992, I ordered it immediately, despite the fact that I was a college student and really couldn't afford its $39 price tag. Over the years I bought all of the rest of Marshall's books as well as anything else I could find on the subject. I even have a first edition of Gunshot Injuries by Louis Lagarde published in 1915.

Are any of these better than another?

Every source I read has different recommendations. Some say Marshall's data is genius. Some say it is statistically impossible. Some like big heavy bullets. Some like lighter, faster bullets. There isn't any consensus. The more I read, the more confused I get.

One thing I remember reading that made a lot of sense to me was an article by Massad Ayoob. He came out with his own stopping power data around the time Marshall published Handgun Stopping Power. In the article, Ayoob took his critics to task. He suggested that if people didn't believe his data, they should collect their own and do their own analysis. That made sense to me. So that's just what I did. I always had a slight problem with the methodology of Marshall and Sanow's work. For consistency purposes, they ONLY included hits to the torso and ONLY included cases where the person was hit with just a single round. Multiple hits screwed up their data, so they excluded them. This lead to an unrealistically high stopping power percentage, because it factored out many of the cases where a person didn't stop! I wanted to look at hits anywhere on the body and get a realistic idea of actual stopping power, no matter how many hits it took to get it. So I started collecting data.

Over a 10-year period, I kept track of stopping power results from every shooting I could find. I talked to the participants of gunfights, read police reports, attended autopsies, and scoured the newspapers, magazines, and Internet for any reliable accounts of what happened to the human body when it was shot.

I documented all of the data I could; tracking caliber, type of bullet (if known), where the bullet hit and whether or not the person was incapacitated. I also tracked fatalities, noting which bullets were more likely to kill and which were not. It was an exhaustive project, but I'm glad I did it and I'm happy to report the results of my study here.

Before I get to the details, I must give a warning. I don't have any dog in this fight! I don't sell ammo. I'm not being paid by any firearm or ammunition manufacturer. I carry a lot of different pistols for self defense. Within the last 2 weeks, I've carried a .22 magnum, a .380 auto, a .38 spl revolver, 3 different 9mm autos and a .45 auto. I don't have an axe to grind. If you are happy with your 9mm, I'm happy for you. If you think that everyone should be carrying a .45 (because they don't make a .46), I'm cool with that too. I'm just reporting the data. If you don't like it, take Mr. Ayoob.s advice...do a study of your own.

A few notes on terminology...

Since it was my study, I got to determine the variables and their definitions. Here's what I looked at:

- Number of people shot

- Number of rounds that hit

- On average, how many rounds did it take for the person to stop his violent action or be incapacitated? For this number, I included hits anywhere on the body. To be considered an immediate incapacitation, I used criteria similar to Marshall's. If the attacker was striking or shooting the victim, the round needed to immediately stop the attack without another blow being thrown or shot being fired. If the person shot was in the act of running (either towards or away from the shooter), he must have fallen to the ground within five feet.

I also excluded all cases of accidental shootings or suicides. Every shot in this study took place during a military battle or an altercation with a criminal.

- What percentage of shooting incidents resulted in fatalities. For this, I included only hits to the head or torso.

- What percentage of people were not incapacitated no matter how many rounds hit them

- Accuracy. What percentage of hits was in the head or torso. I tracked this to check if variations could affect stopping power. For example, if one caliber had a huge percentage of shootings resulting in arm hits, we may expect that the stopping power of that round wouldn’t look as good as a caliber where the majority of rounds hit the head.

- One shot stop percentage - number of incapacitations divided by the number of hits the person took. Like Marshall's number, I only included hits to the torso or head in this number.

- Percentage of people who were immediately stopped with one hit to the head or torso

Discussion

I really would have liked to break it down by individual bullet type, but I didn't have enough data points to reach a level of statistical significance. Getting accurate data on nearly 1800 shootings was hard work. I couldn't imagine breaking it down farther than what I did here. I also believe the data for the .25, .32 and .44 magnum should be viewed with suspicion. I simply don't have enough data (in comparison to the other calibers) to draw an accurate comparison. I reported the data I have, but I really don't believe that a .32 ACP incapacitates people at a higher rate than the .45 ACP!

One other thing to look at is the 9mm data. A huge number (over half) of 9mm shootings involved ball ammo. I think that skewed the results of the study in a negative manner. One can reasonable expect that FMJ ammo will not stop as well as a state of the art expanding bullet. I personally believe that the 9mm is a better stopper than the numbers here indicate, but you can make that decision for yourself based on the data presented.

Some interesting findings:

I think the most interesting statistic is the percentage of people who stopped with one shot to the torso or head. There wasn't much variation between calibers. Between the most common defensive calibers (.38, 9mm, .40, and .45) there was a spread of only eight percentage points. No matter what gun you are shooting, you can only expect a little more than half of the people you shoot to be immediately incapacitated by your first hit.

The average number of rounds until incapacitation was also remarkably similar between calibers. All the common defensive calibers required around 2 rounds on average to incapacitate. Something else to look at here is the question of how fast can the rounds be fired out of each gun. The .38 SPL probably has the slowest rate of fire (long double action revolver trigger pulls and stout recoil in small revolvers) and the fewest rounds fired to get an incapacitation (1.87). Conversely the 9mm can probably be fired fastest of the common calibers and it had the most rounds fired to get an incapacitation (2.45). The .40 (2.36) and the .45 (2.08) split the difference. It is my personal belief that there really isn't much difference between each of these calibers. It is only the fact that some guns can be fired faster than others that causes the perceived difference in stopping power. If a person takes an average of 5 seconds to stop after being hit, the defender who shoots a lighter recoiling gun can get more hits in that time period. It could be that fewer rounds would have stopped the attacker (given enough time) but the ability to fire more quickly resulted in more hits being put onto the attacker. It may not have anything to do with the stopping power of the round.

Another data piece that leads me to believe that the majority of commonly carried defensive rounds are similar in stopping power is the fact that all four have very similar failure rates. If you look at the percentage of shootings that did not result in incapacitation, the numbers are almost identical. The .38, 9mm, .40, and .45 all had failure rates of between 13% and 17%.

Some people will look at this data and say "He's telling us all to carry .22s". That's not true. Although this study showed that the percentages of people stopped with one shot are similar between almost all handgun cartridges, there's more to the story. Take a look at two numbers: the percentage of people who did not stop (no matter how many rounds were fired into them) and the one-shot-stop percentage. The lower caliber rounds (.22, .25, .32) had a failure rate that was roughly double that of the higher caliber rounds. The one-shot-stop percentage (where I considered all hits, anywhere on the body) trended generally higher as the round gets more powerful. This tells us a couple of things...

In a certain (fairly high) percentage of shootings, people stop their aggressive actions after being hit with one round regardless of caliber or shot placement. These people are likely NOT physically incapacitated by the bullet. They just don't want to be shot anymore and give up! Call it a psychological stop if you will. Any bullet or caliber combination will likely yield similar results in those cases. And fortunately for us, there are a lot of these "psychological stops" occurring. The problem we have is when we don't get a psychological stop. If our attacker fights through the pain and continues to victimize us, we might want a round that causes the most damage possible. In essence, we are relying on a "physical stop" rather than a "psychological" one. In order to physically force someone to stop their violent actions we need to either hit him in the Central Nervous System (brain or upper spine) or cause enough bleeding that he becomes unconscious. The more powerful rounds look to be better at doing this.

One other factor to consider is that the majority of these shootings did NOT involve shooting through intermediate barriers, cover or heavy clothing. If you anticipate having to do this in your life (i.e. you are a police officer and may have to shoot someone in a car), again, I would lean towards the larger or more powerful rounds.

What I believe that my numbers show is that in the majority of shootings, the person shot merely gives up without being truly incapacitated by the bullet. In such an event, almost any bullet will perform admirably. If you want to be prepared to deal with someone who won't give up so easily, or you want to be able to have good performance even after shooting through an intermediate barrier, I would skip carrying the "mouse gun" .22s, .25s and .32s.

Now compare the numbers of the handgun calibers with the numbers generated by the rifles and shotguns. For me there really isn't a stopping power debate. All handguns suck! If you want to stop someone, use a rifle or shotgun!

What matters even more than caliber is shot placement. Across all calibers, if you break down the incapacitations based on where the bullet hit you will see some useful information.

Head shots = 75% immediate incapacitation
Torso shots = 41% immediate incapacitation
Extremity shots (arms and legs) = 14% immediate incapacitation.

No matter which caliber you use, you have to hit something important in order to stop someone!

Conclusion

This study took me a long time and a lot of effort to complete. Despite the work it took, I'm glad I did it. The results I got from the study lead me to believe that there really isn't that much difference between most defensive handgun rounds and calibers. None is a death ray, but most work adequately...even the lowly .22s. I've stopped worrying about trying to find the "ultimate" bullet. There isn't one. And I've stopped feeling the need to strap on my .45 every time I leave the house out of fear that my 9mm doesn't have enough "stopping power." Folks, carry what you want. Caliber really isn't all that important.

Take a look at the data. I hope it helps you decide what weapon to carry. No matter which gun you choose, pick one that is reliable and train with it until you can get fast accurate hits. Nothing beyond that really matters!

I have been kicking around the idea of selling my gold and buying more silver. The reason for this is quit simple. Let say you have enough money to buy one ounce of gold (American Gold Eagle) at today's current price of 1530.40 plus the commission which would bring it to approximately 1614.57 via KITCO. For the same amount of money you could also buy 39 American Silver Eagles at 36.00 plus 4.50 commission on each ounce for a total 40.50 each via KITCO as well. Should be noted there is no sale tax on purchases of silver or gold over 1000.00 in Texas. Got to love Texas!

Ok, lets take it one step further for the purpose of this discussion let say you had enough money to buy both gold and silver at the above prices. Then in six month your gold hit the 1600.00* an ounce mark and your silver hit the 50.00* an ounce mark. How much has your investment increase in value since your purchase? Well the gold would still be below what you had payed for it and if you sold it most place will only give you spot plus 5.00. Now onto the silver, If you sold the silver eagle for the average of 2.00 above spot then it would be worth 52.00 an ounce. Well that would be 11.50 per ounce more than you paid for them. So 11.50 times 39 ounce is a total increase in value of 448.50 or a total value of 2028.00 compared to the value of the gold at 1605.00.

The fact is that with the gold you would still be in the negative 9.57, while having a positive net increase on your silver investment of 448.50. The gold went up 70.00 an ounce and the silver went up 14.00 an ounce. I think silver is the clear winner here. The gold would have to go to approximately 3200.00 an ounce for you to double your value while silver would only have to hit 81.00 an ounce for you to double your value. So what do you think?

* It should be noted that gold and silver hit these marks as short as two months ago.

I posted the following back in 2009. Just thought I would throw this out there again because the readership on my blog has jump! I think it is something that is important and often overlooked by people who want to return to the intent of the founding fathers. So here it is:

Is it time to repeal the 17th amendment and return the right to appointing Senator to the state legislators of each state. I think so, the Senate was never meant to be representatives of the people. The founding fathers intended to create a Constitutional balance of power by separating the representation of each states legislative interest from that of the people at a national level. The House of Representatives were meant to be the counter balance to the states representation in the Senate and also be a voice for the people at a national level, not the Senate. I think if the states had maintained their Constitutional Representation at a national level the federal government would never have gotten away with what they have since 1913. Just my 2cents what do you think?

The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, (chosen by the Legislature thereof,) (The preceding words in parentheses superseded by 17th Amendment, section 1.) for six Years; and each Senator shall have one Vote.

First, been having problem with logging into my blog after upgrading to Explorer 9. None of the solutions put out by google worked. So what I ended up having to doing was download Firefox. The bottom line is Explorer 9 sucks!

Ok, Well the Tea Party is responsible for a Democrat winning in New York's 26th Congressional District. The Democrat won only 47% of the vote, while the Republican won 43%, and the Tea Party won 9%. The district is Jack Kemp's old district which has always gone Republican prior to this. Good Job Tea Party!

Now the truth. The Democrats are infiltrating the Tea Party to run candidates against the Republican candidates. The Tea Party candidate was a life long Democrat turned Tea Party named Jack Davis. Mr. Davis spend nearly 3 million of his own money and all his political attack were directed towards the Republican candidate in the race. He used the Tea Party to run a second front of attacks on the Republican candidate and behalf of the Democratic Party. In doing this he pulled enough votes away from the Republican thus insuring a Democrat victory.

The bottom line is that the Tea Party needs to vet the candidates running for office to insure they are just not Democratic operatives seeking to undermine the Republican candidates. This was a successful operation by the Democrats and they will surly repeat this tactic in other races.

So be warned Tea Party supporters that candidate you are supporting may be a Democratic operative who only intent is to draw votes from the Republican candidate to insure a Democratic victory!

AMERICAN LAW ENFORCEMENT: MILITARIZATION OR MODERNIZATION?

I have read time and time again on other blogs that U.S. Law Enforcement agencies are becoming militarized black booted thugs, thus leading us down the road towards a Police State. Every time I see something like this, I just have to shake my head back and forth in disagreement. While pictures of SWAT teams and armored vehicle make a great argument for their position it is just factually wrong. The fact is Law Enforcement has to modernize to keep up with an ever increasing dangerous criminal threat. While they say there is no reason for Law Enforcement to have armored vehicles, then I say well get up off your butt, because Law Enforcement needs you to rush that killers house (Pittsburgh come to mind, 3 officer shot) armed with a high powered rifle shooting at anyone they see. The point is your view would change if your butt was the one on the line instead of just some cop's butt. You would be yelling where is the AV if you showed up in the first place.

While the mission of Law Enforcement and the Military are different there is some equipment and tactics that are deployable in both roles. Let go over a few:

Body Armor:

Saves lives of LEOs and Soldiers. Not much explaining needed here.

Armored Vehicles:

Protecting our soldiers during operations, also equipped with mounted offensive weapons. Law Enforcement uses them to protect officers when approaching known threats or rescuing injured officers and civilians (West Hollywood shootout comes to mind). Law Enforcement armored vehicles are not equipped with any mounted offensive weapons. I hate the fact Law Enforcement even needs this type of equipment, but what do you do, we expect them to get the criminals off the street but not give them the tools, it would be suicide for the officers!
Update: Two Fond du Lac Wisconsin police officers were shot and one is dead today. Police later used shields and armored cars to safely evacuate people from the neighborhood.

Rifles:

This may be one of the most important pieces of equipment a soldier has outside of their training. The purpose of a soldier having a rifle is to kill the enemy. Law Enforcement rifles used are mainly the semi auto version (same AR platform non LE Americans can purchase) of the military M16 to provide officers a fighting chance against and every increasing use of high powered weapons against them, most recent was the Va shooting of 4 deputies, 2 dead last week involved a rifle. Also a little know fact is that the rifle was commonly carried by LEOs up tell WWII. This is modernization to deal with threats faced by LEOs, not militarization.

Uniforms:

Like anything uniforms will change over time as better materials are used and styles change. Not to many business men running around in suits designed in the 40s. You say what does that have to do with LEOs wearing BDU style uniforms. The class A uniforms most LEOs are still currently wear today is a design based on the WWII uniform wore by Army Air Force pilots. Yep that is right kiddos they have been wear a military style uniform for approximately 65 years now with not much changing in the original style other than maybe the fabric used and colors. The bottom line is styles change and the use of class B (BDU) uniform is just more practical for field use than a dress uniform. This is modernization and adaptation not militarization.

Tactics:

This simple truth is good tactics (including SWAT) save lives whether you’re a soldier, a LEO, or a homeowner defending your home from an intruder. If your tactics are not sound and current than your survivalability will be in question. There is a reason our soldier no longer fight like they did during the civil war, and that was the introduction of the machine gun in WWI. LEOs must also change their tactic to an ever changing world if they are going to go home every night to their families.

In conclusion the fact is like it or not we live in a country where people kill other for the littlest reason if for no reason at all. The life of an LEO has no lesser value than any other American citizen, so why would we not give them the training and equipment they need to do their job. I would also like to note that everything I talked about concerning equipment (including Armored Vehicles) and training is available to American citizens for purchase. How is that militarization if every American has a right to purchase these items as well? So what I'm saying is I do not think Law Enforcement is become militarized, they are just modernizing to adapt to an ever increasing criminal threat. The belief that America is becoming a Police State has nothing to do with the street cop being able to do their job, but with who YOU elect to office. The LEOs can only enforce laws that are passed by the people YOU elect. The bottom line it is up to every American to ensure we elect people that represent our values. So the answer is modernization not militarization.

Oil closed at $105.00 a barrel today, and the dollar index dropped to $76.39. Silver closed at $35.67 per ounce today which is only a $1.33 below what the price of gold was per ounce in January 1971. In 1971 the average price for an ounce of gold was only $37.00 dollars. How time have chanced.

What this mean is between 217,000,000 and 297,000,000 American could die over time as a result of an EMP or Solar event that took out the power grid. My guess is these people would all have died within the first 6 months to a year. I just do not think you can stretch that average 3 day supply of food most people have to last a year much less 30 days. The first to go would be all the people dependant on medications or medical devices to live, then starvation and killing, then diseases from all the dead bodies and unsanitary conditions, and then starvation again and more killing. Well you get the point! The fact is with out our technology our country could only support between 31,000,000 and 93,000,000 people.

Looking at this just reminds me how important it is to be prepared for the big and little things that life will throw at us. I think having a good supply of food on hand and the knowledge to grow or gather food that nature provides for us out there, that most people will just overlook can not be overly stated. I think we need to also take our physical fitness seriously and make exercise a part of our life style. I believe that we need certain basic thing in our lives to live long and healthy. That is God, restful sleep, food, water, shelter from the elements, companionship and exercise. My point is exercise should never be look upon as optional just like food and water are not optional when it comes to living or dying.

"LIGHTS OUT" REVIEW

Well I bought "Lights Out" through Amazon.com before Christmas and began to read it as soon as it arrived and I finished it around mid January. The book is 598 pages long and is set in south central Texas in the county of Wilson. I noticed the author through out the book used real location which added to realism of the story. The event that cause the lights to go was believed to be EMP pulse, but it was never determined for sure. The book only covers a little under four months after the EMP event in the first 596 pages and then suddenly jump about 20 to 30 years later in the last two pages. I think I would have put the last two pages first and set the story up as if someone was looking back to the event and telling the story.

I did find it kind of strange how long it took the characters to realize that the rules of the world had chanced. One example is when the main character Mark went hunting approximately 2 to 3 months after "The Burst" as the EMP event became known , but he waited until it was hunting season before he went and also observed the bag limit, I'm like hello this is about survival not sport. There were numerous incidents in the book that were just not realistic as to you would handle a situation after "The Burst". At approximately 12 weeks after "The Burst" there was a debate between Mark and another character named Jeff as to weather it was ok to take abandoned property to aide in your survival. Mark argued it was wrong under any circumstance even though he had already done it himself. I personally feel the way Jeff did about abandoned property after a major event such as "The Burst". Mark did eventually come around though, but later than he should have.

There were also several error in the book covering the authors interpretation of Texas law and his views on religion, but over all I thought the book was good and recommend it. So go read it and judge for yourself.

The Bible tells us Jesus said no man will know the day and hour of his return. OK, well maybe the Mayan calendar does or gives us a clue of the date. When I heard what I'm about to tell you, I was like WOW! What I want you to do now is go get your Bible and go to REVELATION. Turn to Chapter 20 Verse 12, that is right 2012. I used "The New American Bible" and this is what is says:

"I saw the dead, the great and lowly, standing before the throne, and scrolls were opened. Then another scroll was opened, the book of life. The dead were judged according to their deeds, by what was written in the scrolls."

While I'm not sure what 12/21/2012 hold for us if anything this is still never the less very interesting. I personally lean toward some type of economic collapse or major solar event that destroys the electric grid during 2012. If you believe the above passage from REVELATION does not have anything to do with 2012, it is still a good idea to get right with God, because our personal Judgement Day can come anytime from this moment forward.

VERY COLD HERE!

Very Cold here in Texas. The ice is gone for the most part and roads can be travelled without much problem. They are now shutting down schools because of the cold not the ice. In teens currently and going down to 10 degrees tomorrow night. Oncor is do rolling blackout through out the state to prevent a strain on grid. Thankful for a well stock pantry, frig, and freezer. No need to run to store for bread, milk, and eggs. I say Ha to all the unprepared for this emergency, but most will not learn. Nice and warm in my house for now.

Makes you think what would you do if you were in one of those vehicles. These pictures remind me of something out of the movie "The Day After Tomorrow". What do you think?

The dollar index has slipped down to 77.92, but everything seem to be down from there recent highs including gold and silver. The only good news, I guess is that oil has fallen back below 90 dollars a barrel to 86.32. Still a far cry from the 12 dollars a barrel of the 90s after the first gulf war.

The talking heads on the left now are even say there is no chance of passing a gun control bill in congress. Heck Sen Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. a big time gun control supporter even say there is no chance of passing one in the Democratically control Senate. So I guess now all I have to do is wait for a few months for the price of magazines to go back down AGAIN. Do not get me wrong I have alot of magazine but heck you can always just have a few more! The only winners here are the sellers of guns and magazines because you know they saw this as a chance to make alot of money by playing off peoples' fear. This is why we are preppers, so will do not fall into fear buying which drives the prices up and causes shortages. This just re-enforces my view that preppers are the smart one because we go out and buy our food, weapons, magazines, ammo, and other supplies when there is not panic and prices are lower and somewhat normal. Then we just set back and watch the show!

Ok, people why is it all over the news and blogs about another hi-cap magazine ban. Wake up and smell the coffee the Democrat Socialists have about as much chance of passing a magazine ban in the House as the Republican have at passing the repeal of Obamacare in the Senate. The Democrat Socialists are just speaking to thier base knowing full well that they could never get it past as long as the Republicans control at least one house. Heck they could not even pass one in the last 2 years when they controlled all three branches. Congresswoman Giffords was shot along with 18 other people today. One of the six dead is a 9 year old little girl. The information is that the Congresswoman was the target. The shooter a 22 year old man is in custody. This unacceptable by any standard. We do not kill or shoot our elected officials in this country because we disagree with them. We go to the ballot box and vote them out. I hope this coward gets the needle if convicted. People like him do not help our causes on the right. The government reported today that the CPI only increased 1.1% over the last 12 months. Well that is great news, no runaway inflation. All Lies!

Do they really think we are that dumb, Ok that does apply to 95% of the population. For the 5% of us who know the truth. The fact is prices have been going up at a far greater rate than 1.1%. What they do not tell you is that food and fuel are not factored in when determining the CPI. The reason for this is because it forces increases in social security payouts by law because those increases are based on the CPI. Well hell food and fuel consume the largest part of my budget after housing. So go tell lie to someone else!

Yesterday it was reported The Treasury had the largest sell off of Treasure bond since 2008. The reports are that the seller are in the Asian market, the Chinese maybe. We need to take this sell off as a warning concerning the dollar. Experts have project once the U.S. can no longer sell more bond than they are cashing in then it is the beginning of the end for the U.S. dollar. So keep an eye on this still developing situation. The Russians and Chinese are dumping the dollar in bilateral trading, the Fed plans to buy 600 billion in worthless T Bills, food prices are up, oil prices are going back up. Heck Gold and Silver are both up as well, which is strange because the dollar index usually goes down when the price of Gold and Silver go up. Nothing make sense. Maybe it is just an indicator that the rest of the world is really in worse shape than the U.S. Hmmmm!

Well another great episode air last night. I really like this show, I do not know maybe it is because it is so graphic. Who would have guessed that Rick's wife fled the zombie hordes with Rick's partner. When he was doing her doggie style in the woods is when I said "Hey is that not Rick's wife and his partner". OK, so I'm a little slow! This should make for an interesting reunion though. I have seen a lot of zombie movies and I never thought about using zombie guts as a form of camouflage, WOW good thinking. This was a total surprise to me also! I think surprises like this will help keep the show fresh and hopefully not allowing it to fall into the same old zombie tale. We shall see.

The dollar closed down at 76.61 on Friday, November 05, 2010. The dollar did fall down into the 75 point range during the week prior to it settling at a new low for 2010. Gold is set to break the 1400.00 dollar mark as it closed up Friday at 1394.10. Silver is up at 26.76 and Oil closed up at 87.40/ barrel as well.

On November 02, 2010 we had a bloodless uprising at the ballot box. Yesterday Hope was restored to America for at least the short term. The American people rose up and told the radical leftist who reside in the White House that we do not want anymore of what they are shoveling out. What I see for the next 2 years in Washington is gridlock, which by the way is not a bad thing when you have a radical leftist attempting to fundamentally change the country into a socialist state. This is just the beginning we have a long ways to go, after all the progressives have been working at this for the last 100 years. So in short the uprising has just begun, but may well take us another 50 plus years to really dismantle what they have slowly put in place over the last 100 years. I'm so thankful I live in a country where if we do not like the government we can overthrow it every two or four years without a single drop of blood being spilled by just casting a vote. We truly live in a blessed nation.

10 MILE BIKE RIDE AND WILD EDIBLE PLANTS

I have been seeing on other blogs about how you should be able to throw on you BOB and hike 10 miles back to your home if your stuck at work or if you had to flee your home during an emergency. So this got me to wondering could I do it even though I only live 2 miles from work.

What I decided to do is first make the trip on my mountain bike. I loaded my Nike workout bag (the type you can put on your back) with one 20oz bottle of water, one 16oz bottle of Gatorade, G27 pistol in Blackhawk Serpa Hoster and 1 spare 15rd mag in Blackhawk mag carrier, GPS, cell phone, sun screen, off bug spray, 2 Kudo's energy bars, small hand towel, hand sanitizer, and yes my IPod. The total load out of the bag was around 9 pounds. On a side note I wanted to fit into my environment and not attract attention so that is why I picked my Nike bag to carry everything in.

I then set off and rode the nature trails by my house and stopped for water and Gatorade breaks as needed. It took me approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete the 10 mile trek on a cloudless day with an average temp of 75 degree. It was a beautiful day for a bike ride. What I learn is that a bike is a great alternative to walking home, but I do need a better gel seat because it wore my butt out. I think I stop mostly because of my butt and used that as the opportunity to take in fluids. I also only used about half of the water and Gatorade and ate only one of the Kudo's bars during the entire 10 miles. I know the temp had a lot to with that though.

There was an additional reward to the bike ride in the fact that I located several mature pecan trees on the route and marked their locations in my GPS. They would be a great source of emergency protein and carbs during the fall time of the year. During my future rides I will also attempt to begin to identify the edible plants in my area including my own yard. This is my back up plan to supplement my stores and any foods that I may be able to grow in my small vegetable garden during a crises where the store shelves are bare. Did you know those Yaupon Holly bushes in your yard could be used for tea. They are a great source of caffeine and antioxidants. Well anyhow found some great sites that help you in identifying the edible wild and landscaping plants all around us. I also purchased a couple edible wild food guide books through Amazon.com, can not wait to get them. I hope to post a review of these books sometime in the near future. So in the mean time check these sites out and discover the buffet right outside your front door that we ignore on a daily basis. The great thing is so do your neighbors. You will not starve even in the most difficult time with this knowledge about edible wild foods all around us.

The Toyota Tacoma 4x4 may be the best over looked bug out vehicle ever. This vehicle which is called the Hilux outside of the United States is a favorite among the rebel groups of the world including our own special forces pictured above in Afghanistan around 2002. I own one myself and love it. The darn thing will go anywhere and just will not break down. I had my last a 1992 model for 14 years before I broke down and bought a new. The guy I sold it to still has it and he said it is still running great. Damn I wish I had not sold it. Oh by the way the machine gun is sold seperate, but it would be nice if it was part of the sports package upgrade. hahaha!

DOLLAR DOWN TO 76.99

Dollar down again. Well the Fed chairman announced today that they would be buying more T bills. I guess China and others no longer trust the T bills. When the government can no longer sell their T bills to anyone other than the Fed then you will have seen the first sign of the economic collapse. The next step will be everyone who knows what is coming will began to dump their dollars into hard assets while the dollar still has value. This will start to drive up prices and yep then the inflation begins and then hyper inflation. You will have a very short window which could only be measured in days between when the Fed is the only one buying T bills and and the rush to buy hard assets. I hope you are not waiting to the last minute to prepare but if you have any dollars laying around then I would recommend putting your remaining dollars into hard assets that include can goods and other long term foods during this short window you will have before the dollars spirals out of control. So good luck and keep your heads down!

DOLLAR DOWN TO 77.40

The dollar has began a steady slide back down since a high earlier this year of around 83.00. The last time the dollar was at this level was in August 2009. I believe the only reason the dollar rebounded temporarily in early 2010 was because of all the money the fed dumped into the economy through the so called stimulus. We all knew this would only be a temporary shot in the arm for a falling dollar and now we are see it free fall once again. We only have to look at the price of Gold and Oil today to see it. The magic number that I have seen around is that when the dollar hits 73.00 then it begin to spiral out of control from there.

I hope to post soon what the warning signs are just before the collapse. If you know what your looking for then you will have approximately a 24 to 48 hour lead time to get your money out of the bank and invest in hard assets such as food, ammunition, and fuel before the panic begins on a nationwide or even a worldwide scale. When this panic begins it will look like what happen in Greece but only on steroids.
